Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney contacted someone who tested positive for COVID-19, following he has been informed that he has to be isolated for 14 days, this would result in missing his side’s upcoming meeting with Manchester City.
Stuart Armstrong was the only squad member to test positive for the virus, Tierney met Southampton midfielder at Scotland on international duty.
Armstrong is isolated, and the decision was taken to keep both Tierney and Celtic’s Ryan Christie in isolation after they were confirmed as the Southampton man’s close contacts, as BBC Sport reported.
The decision came as a shock to both Arsenal and Tierney, who announced in a joint statement on the official website of the club that they are investigating the matter and whether they really need to separate the 23-year-old.
“Our medical team has confirmed that Kieran was socially distant at all times from the player who tested positive and has broken no rules regarding COVID-19 protocols,” the statement read. “We are currently seeking further advice and clarification of the details.”
