Ahead of the matches against Morocco and Mauritania this month, Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy withdrew from Senegal’s squad after sustaining a thigh injury in training according to the Goal.
Chelsea is now toiling on the quandary’s seriousness, and if Mendy is not fit in time to play against Southampton when domestic football resumes on 17 October, it could mean an early recall for former number one Kepa Arrizabalaga.
During a training session on Wednesday, the 28-year-old has suffered an injury to his right thigh, reported the Senegalese Football Federation.
He was subsequently treated at a hospital in Rabat, where Senegal is preparing to face Morocco, but Mendy’s decision to withdraw has now been made.
