Juventus defeat Spezia earning first victory of the season

This season Juventus played for the fifth time in Serie A, but they were taken by surprise by a spirited Spezia side. Juventus earned their first Serie A victory of the season as they came from behind to defeat Spezia 3-2. The winning goal of the night was scored by Matthijs de Ligt in the 72nd minute of the football match.

For the first time since 1955-56, the Bianconeri would have gone five games without a win at the start of an Italian top-flight season if they had not won all three points at Stadio Alberto Picco. Moise Kean’s first goal in the 28th minute put Massimiliano Allegri’s side ahead. But Emmanuel Gyasi and Janis Antiste’s goals from Spezia stormed back on either side of half-time.

In the 66th minute, Federico Chiesa equalized the scoreboard but with 18 minutes remaining towards the end, De Ligt secured a much-needed first win of the season. Just before the half-hour mark, the Bianconeri had taken the lead, with Kean collecting Adrien Rabiot’s knockdown and firing in from 18 yards off Jeroen Zoet’s right-hand post. However, it only took the hosts five minutes to respond, as Gyasi cut in from the left and fired across Wojciech Szczesny thanks to a slight deflection.

As Juve desperately tried to claw their way back into the game, Zoet denied Kean and Dybala, and the pressure paid off in the 66th minute when Chiesa fired in after superbly finding his way through the Spezia defence. To Allegri’s relief, De Ligt then lifted some of the clouds that had begun to gather over the Turin giants.
