Jurgen Klopp: We can’t do more than show the best version of our game

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has explained his side’s serious slippage against Manchester City in the EPL standings.

“It’s never been about how we thought we could beat City or how we could be the best team in England again, whatever that means,” Klopp told at the press conference.

“We just wanted to be the best version of ourselves. We’ve got that chance again. If it’s good enough, it’s good enough. If the other team is better, it can’t be helped, that’s the way sport works.”

“We can’t do more than show the best version of our game. We will try to do that again. Of course, it takes a bit of luck to do that. A little more luck with injuries and we can get closer to them.”

“We’d all agree, and I’m sure Pep would say the same thing: we wouldn’t be 16 points behind Manchester City if we had a normal season now. But we are behind. That’s the way it is. We accept that.”

“This season is not about thinking about how close we can get to City. It’s about how high we can go at the table. We have enough work to do.”

Liverpool is currently sixth in the EPL standings. The team will face Everton today in the 25th round of the EPL.
