Joseph Blatter former FIFA President expressed his grievance for former Argentine footballer Diego Maradona, who died of a heart attack today.
“I want to say that Maradona really left his mark on world football in the last three decades,” said Blatter to Sport Express.
“He was an extraordinary football player. Diego was the man who led his team to the 1979 World Youth Championships in Tokyo, where Argentina won the USSR national team in the final, scoring three goals in the end of the decisive match.”
“I have a parallel to the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. There, it brought victory to the national team. He scored that unforgettable goal with the “hand of God” in a match with Britain. And now God has called him home. Rest in peace, Diego. Thank you for everything!”
