Delivering a great performance in last season’s football matches, Jorginho has emerged as a key player for both club and country. However, with two years remaining on his current contract, future of Jorginho at Chelsea remains uncertain. He aims to play at the London club for as long as possible but he has yet to receive a contract extension from Chelsea.
Jorginho earned the title of UEFA Men’s Player of the Year after he won the Champions League with Thomas Tuchel’s side and then Euro 2020 with Italy in last season. His club and country double made him only the tenth player in history to win both competitions in the same year.
It was a great year for Jorginho as he was a part of the team which won the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup, on the other hand, the Italian team won Euro 2020. He is now nominated for Ballon D’Or yet his long-term future at Chelsea remains uncertain with two years remaining on his current contract.
Jorginho was questioned if he could possibly see out his career at Stamford Bridge, he told reporters on Tuesday, as he prepares according to Sky Sports latest football news, “One thing at a time and in the end they come to terms. On the contract, I say that I didn’t have any offer and now I don’t even think about it, honestly.”
“But at 29 you already talk to me about finishing my career, but I want to play until 40. If they make me a ten-year contract, then yes.” Jorginho insisted on focusing on one game at a time, with World Cup qualifiers against Bulgaria, Switzerland, and Lithuania on the horizon.
Italian national team coach Roberto Mancini believes Chelsea midfielder Jorginho deserves the Ballon d’Or. Recently in a press conference, Mancini claimed, “I would give him the Ballon d’Or, he deserves it because he won everything this season.”
