The best center-back in the world is Virgil van Dijk, according to Bayern star Jerome Boateng.
This season at Bayern, former Germany’s international Boateng has enjoyed a renaissance, impressing at the heart of defense alongside David Alaba after Hansi Flick replaced Niko Kovac as head coach to guide the Bavarian giants to an eighth consecutive Bundesliga title.
On Thursday, standing apart among the elite after Liverpool clinched the Premier League glory, he feels Van Dijk is now a top-flight champion himself.
“He’s up with his consistent performance,” said Boateng during a ‘Fan-Talk’ from Bayern.
“But I like [Kalidou] Koulibaly from Napoli, too. [Sergio] Ramos from Real Madrid has long been playing at a high level.”
The 31-year-old Boateng is keen to give Flick plenty of credit as regards his own upturn.
“Since Hansi Flick became coach, you feel good in training and in everything. The fun and good mood are back,” he explained.
“Hansi is very special, otherwise he would not be so successful with the team.”
“He gives us a lot of trusts, everyone. He wants to improve everyone and he does that. He gives us an incredible amount of self-confidence.”
