This year’s Ballon d’Or prize is proving far harder to predict than in previous seasons.

That is because, for once, Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not the outright favourites. It has become customary, roughly over the last decade, to think of the winner as between just the two superstars.

However, what with both footballing legends making earth-shattering moves this past summer, 2021’s Ballon d’Or winner is hard to call.

For one, there are many more names in the mix this time. Many nominees like Chelsea midfielder Jorginho and Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema (the football news) present as strong contenders for the honour.
