Injured Tielemans withdrawn from Belgian squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans has withdrawn from the Belgian national squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers because of the injury, he sustained against Leeds United at the weekend. The Belgian federation did not specify the nature of Tielemans’ injury but it is noted that he was substituted following a collision with goalkeeper Illan Meslier late in Sunday’s 1-1 draw football match. Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said after the match that Tielemans’ calf was sore.

Federation spokesman Stefan Van Loock confirmed that the Leicester player will miss Group E matches against Estonia later this week and at Wales on November 16.  With a win over Estonia, Belgium will qualify for next year’s World Cup, or another chance to reach the qualifying stage is if Wales fails to beat Belarus on Saturday.

According to HLN football news, Initial scans revealed the injury to Tielemans’ ankle and calf, and the midfielder is expected to be out for two to three weeks as he recovers. Tielemans has stayed with Leicester instead of going for international duty, where he will undergo additional testing to assess how long he will be out.

As Leicester City prepare to host Chelsea on November 20 at the King Power Stadium they will be fretting about Tielemans’s fitness however he will be missing Belgium’s upcoming matches against Estonia and Wales

Tielemans’ participation in that match is clearly in doubt, as well as in the Europa League meeting with Legia Warsaw and Watford’s visit the following week. The 24-year-old is presently on a run of 67 Premier League games, which is the longest of any outfield player in the position, but it appears to be coming to an end. Instead, Tielemans will sit on the bench alongside Wesley Fofana.
