Indian football team departs for Doha with captain Sunil Chhetri

The 28-member Indian football team led by the charismatic captain Sunil Chhetri, who has recovered from the coronavirus infection, left for Doha on Wednesday evening. Here they will play the remaining matches of the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier match and the Asian Cup qualifier to be held in the year 2023.

According to the health protocol required for the visit to Qatar, all players and staff are to arrive there with a negative report of the Covid-19 RT-PCR probe conducted in the last 48 hours. It is noteworthy that the Indian football team players were segregated in the national capital Delhi from 15 May.

Sunil Chhetri was not part of the Indian football team in the friendly matches played against UAE and Oman in March due to the disease. But, he is all set for the match to be played against the host Qatar on June 3. The Indian team will take part in a practice camp at Bio-Bubble in Doha.

The head coach of the Indian team, Igor Stimac, said that this is not an ‘ideal situation’ before the qualifier match to be played in June but the Blue Tigers (Indian football team) will practice hard in their camp before the match. Explain that the Indian team is fourth in Group ‘E’ with three points.

“It is not an ideal situation but we are going ahead for the qualifier matches in June,” he said. “Due to the coronavirus pandemic, our national camp in Kolkata had to be canceled in early May. We were supposed to play a friendly match in Dubai, but it is impossible to do that due to the epidemic.”
