In Tokyo Olympics British women’s team took a knee against racism

British women’s footballers looked at each other and took one knee down as the referee’s whistle blew. The opposition’s team Chile also did the same. After an hour, American and Swedish players took this step in protest against racism. This view was seen on the first day of Tokyo Olympics.

FIFA was also not in favor of any kind of protest on the field earlier, but last year relaxed the rules in this direction as players were protesting in Europe after the death of black George Floyd at the hands of an English official in the US. Earlier, there was a ban on putting such a slogan on the jersey as well, but later FIFA asked the referees to allow the players with a judicious decision.

Britain began their Olympic campaign with a win by defeating Chile 2–0 in the first match. In the match played without spectators in Sapporo, England’s Ellen White scored in both the halves. The first goal was scored in the 18th minute while the second goal was scored in the 73rd minute, both goals for Britain were scored by Ellen White. Football matches have started two days before the opening ceremony.

In another match, Brazil trounced China 5–0 in their first match at the Olympics. Brazil’s Marta became the first footballer in the world to score five consecutive Olympic goals. Marta scored two goals (9th minute, 47th minute) while the other goals were scored by Debinha (22nd), Andressa Alves (74), and Beatriz (89). Marta, a six-time best footballer, has so far scored 111 international goals. China’s team is ranked 15th in the world but most of the players in the team are new. There are only five players who took part in the Rio Olympics.
