Igor Stimac believes Indian team must improve despite two international win

Indian football team head coach Igor Stimac believes that despite being unbeaten in two international matches against Nepal, the Indian team still has a lot to prove and improve on many aspects. After the first friendly football match between the two countries was drawn 1-1, India registered a 2-1 match score victory in the second match on Sunday with the help of goals from Farukh Chaudhary and captain Sunil Chhetri.

“We need to congratulate the players for their attitude and match-winning spirit,” Stimac said in a post-match press conference. “We were waiting for the opportunity to score first and as soon as Nepal’s defense got scattered, you know things got easier,” he continued.

“I especially need to appreciate my players because they were much more patient, waiting for the first goal, to open up the Nepali defence, and as you know, when that happens, everything is much easier,” the Indian football team coach added.

He said, ‘I think India still has a lot to prove and improve on many aspects.’ Stimac believes that both the teams performed better in the second match. “I think it was a good football match that all the fans could enjoy,” he said. “The second match here was much better than the previous one.”

“After we scored the first goal, we started rising with confidence and playing as we need to play. I think overall India were the better of the two sides over the two games, and deservedly are going forward with a win,” he said. Commenting on the hosts’ performance Stimac said: “Nepal played well, they improved a lot. I can see how much it means to the team when it has two months of preparation. But I think India still has a lot to prove and many points to improve on,” he concluded.
