Mikel Arteta made some decisions for which he had to face criticism from former Arsenal player Ian Wright.
“I have to say that with the kind of players the coach is picking now, guys like Emile Smith-Rowe and Joe Willock should get a chance,” Wright said on Optus Sport’s The Kelly and Wrighty show.
“It’s easy because you look at Willian, nothing happens and he plays poorly. Why are players like Kolasinac getting on the pitch? Why is Mustafi playing? ”
“I’d rather look at Saliba, who plays in the under-23 team, for Smith-Rowe. I would rather see something different.”
“I would say to the management: give Mesut Özil money if the coach is not going to release him and let him go. The same goes for Kolasinac and those players who are at the club and aren’t going to be useful.”
“That’s what Arteta needs – players who are going to be useful. Arsenal has to realize that they are in a situation where things could get worse if they lose to Brighton and West Bromwich. These are matches they have a duty to win.”
