Hansi Flick will leave Bayern Munich after being strongly linked to the job of the German national team, Joachim Low will give up after the European Championship this summer.
Initially, the 56-year-old Nico Kovac’s assistant manager, temporarily took over when Croatia was fired in November 2019. As per the reports, Flick is seeking a way out of Bayern to achieve his ambition of leading the German national team.
Flick made a sharp rise in fortunes, winning six trophies in the space of a year, winning the Bundesliga, Champions League, and the German Cup. He was rewarded with a contract until June 2023. In February, Bayern Munich won the Club World Cup, Flick’s sixth trophy in charge of his first 16 months.
However, the former Bayern midfielder has been disappointed by the lack of new signings this season and found himself in a power struggle with sports director Hasan Salihamidzic.
Bayern would let Hansi Flick go but not for free and would charge fees, according to a Twitter account: “Bayern will comply with Hansi Flick’s request to leave the club, but want a financial compensation. Flick and Bayern will part ways after the end of the season [Kicker]”. The German, who took office on 1 July, will have to pay compensation alleged to be priced over £ 20m.
“We have agreed that we will sit down after the game in Mainz,” Bayern’s CEO told BILD. “If we are to meet Hansi’s request, all parties have to work together to find a solution that FC Bayern is also happy with.”
Bayern are seven points ahead of second-placed RB Leipzig as they end in their ninth consecutive Bundesliga title, but the Flick side was knocked out of the Champions League earlier this month by Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern Munich president Herbert Hanner praised Flick’s work and said he would like to “thank” the outgoing manager. “He took our team through a difficult phase in 2019 and then won six titles. The seventh hopes to follow him soon. He will always hold a place in FC Bayern’s history books.”
Julian Nagelsmann is said to replace Hansi Flick at Bayern.
