Sine 2014, the Netherlands return to a big football tournament for the first time, but they are still a long way from the glory days of Euro 88. After missing two major tournaments in a row the KNVB had to do a lot of soul searching. We have noted down a preview of Netherlands in Group C ahead of Euro 2020.
At Euro 2020 former player and captain Frank De Boer will lead the Netherlands national football team, and we feel their prospects will be restricted this summer with a roster of youthful, motivated, and experienced players wanting to prove their worth on the international scene for the final time.
We think the Netherlands can just make it to the quarter-finals and hence, cannot call them favorites for the trophy. In our perspective, adulation, and comments that they “were back” once they received qualification were premature.
The present roster has distinct qualities than their more legendary counterparts and this is the biggest difference between the present roster and the legendary Dutch teams of the past, which included the likes of Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten, and Dennis Bergkamp
The Netherlands had a consistent record at the European Championship, with the exception of Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine, where they did not get past the group round. The 2020 vintage is enthusiastic and hardworking, but they are a little too inexperienced to make an impact and win Euro 2020.
