To reach the first men’s final competition it took Finland almost 80 years. As a result, it’s a kind of lovely irony after decades of more than a difficult path. The postponement of Euro 2020 by one year matters little in the grand scheme of things. We have noted down a preview of Finland in Group B ahead of Euro 2020.
Finland fans have already demonstrated their ability. For years they’ve been traveling with the team around Europe, and the demand for tickets was enormous to their European Championship games, especially given the proximity of Copenhagen and St. Petersburg to Helsinki.
Thousands of fans have received cruel emails from UEFA informing them that their purchased tickets have been canceled after Covid-19 played its tricks once again by limiting stadium attendance. Hence, the Finnish team will not receive the support it deserves from the stands, but the players will give everything they have and a little bit more.
As Group B appears to be quite difficult, Finland has no realistic chance of progressing from the group stage. Denmark is in fantastic shape with home advantage; Russia has always been a difficult opponent with home advantage for Finland, and Belgium ranked first in FIFA’s rankings.
We are optimistic that Finns’ dreams to see beloved Eagle Owls advance to the knockout stages won’t be fulfilled. A draw would be a good result, a win (particularly against Russia) would be like winning the tournament, and qualifying from the group would send the entire country into a frenzy.
