With the start of UEFA Euro 2020, Denmark is full of excitement since the team hasn’t looked this strong on paper in a long time. Beginning with Kasper Schmeichel from Leicester, the starting 11 includes players from Valencia, Chelsea, AC Milan, Atalanta, Tottenham, Dortmund, Inter, Barcelona, Nice, and RB Leipzig. We have noted down a preview of Denmark in Group B ahead of Euro 2020.
Kasper Hjulmand, a modern manager with an offensive style, has been the national team’s coach for the past year. He has expanded on the solid defensive foundation established by his predecessor, Age Hareide, while also introducing more pressure and a more ball-playing approach.
In the group games, Denmark finally enjoys a home advantage against Finland, Belgium, and Russia, which are all being played in Parken in Copenhagen. Hence, the team is expected to advance from the group stage. There is a likelihood that they could go far if they don’t run into some of the favorites right away. Possibly as far as the semi-finals at Wembley, where they defeated England 1-0 in the Nations League eight months ago.
All three games of Denmark will be played at Parken in Copenhagen, which might be significant given that Group B joint-host Russia will travel to Denmark for the match between the two teams.
While Belgium must be favorites to win the group and one of the favorites to win the tournament, Denmark’s opening game against Finland appears to be a three-pointer against a country competing in its maiden European Championships. Last year Denmark lost both Nations League games against Belgium (0-2 and 2-4), so a point here would be a significant improvement. Then it all comes down to the final game against Russia, which will be played at Parken.
