In the upcoming UEFA Euro 2020, Switzerland has all the ingredients to advance far in the tournament. The national football team is a part of Group A, recognized as a difficult group, which includes Italy, Wales, and Turkey. There is still an expectation that they will at least progress till the round of 16 for the fourth straight major tournament, and that they will advance past this level for the first time since 1954. We have noted down a preview of Switzerland in Group A ahead of Euro 2020.
Recently, Switzerland has proved that it can fight with any country. One example is their thrilling 5-2 victory over Belgium to qualify for the UEFA Nations League finals in 2019. Seeing the team’s past record in 2018 they tied with Brazil and beat Spain in the 2010 World Cup. They also pushed Argentina to extra time in the 2014 World Cup.
It’s also critical that crucial players like Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka, and Haris Seferovic perform to their full potential in order for Switzerland to have the best opportunity of winning the tournament.
In recent tournament history, this is the most balanced and toughest group Switzerland has ever faced. All four teams of Group A believe they can beat each other. Switzerland should at least qualify in second place although they have the potential to finish first in the group. Of course, third place is now a possible Euro qualification spot, but Switzerland shouldn’t have to rely on it.
This time around if the draw is favorable, we also believe they have a chance to advance further than the last 16. They were unhappy when they were drawn with Poland and Sweden, two similar teams, at that stage of the last two major championships, but We believe the team has grown and learned from those heartbreaking losses. Switzerland, in our opinion, will reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.
