Granit Xhaka extended stay at Arsenal until 2025

Arsenal midfielder, Granit Xhaka has extended his stay at the London club after signing a new four-year contract. This summer, he was highly linked to sign Italian football club Roma taking a leave from the Emirates. But a planned move to Roma did not materialize and the Swiss footballer will continue to play for the Gunners.

Arsenal asked £20 million transfer fee for the former Borussia Monchengladbach man but Jose Mourinho’s side refused to pay the claimed price. Hence, Arsenal’s focus quickly shifted to a new contract for Xhaka, who was set to become a free agent in 2023.

After reviving his Arsenal career following the arrival of Mikel Arteta and signing a new contract Xhaka has committed his future to the Gunners until 2025, according to football.londonAfter being jeered by the crowd, the 28-year-old swore and gestured to Arsenal fans in a match against Crystal Palace in October 2019, but he won Arteta’s trust and played 45 times in all competitions last season.

The midfielder joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016. On the opening weekend of the Premier League season, he captained the Gunners in the club’s defeat at promoted Brentford. Xhaka has netted 13 goals and provided 20 assists in 221 competitive games last season for Arsenal. Gunners were interested in Manuel Locatelli and Ruben Neves but now that has been stopped with the contract extension of the 28-year-old.
