The ex-manager of Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and France, Gerard Houllier, passed away at the age of 73.
The news of the death of Houllier comes just days after he underwent heart surgery.
Following the death of former France and Liverpool manager tributes poured in for Gerard Houllier.
Houllier was considered one of French football’s most distinguished coaches and had spells at Le Touquet, Noeux-les-Mines and Lens early in his managerial career.
In the Premier League the following season Houllier led Liverpool to a second-place finish – their best performance at the time since the top tier of English football was rebranded. It was during that campaign that Houllier was rushed to the hospital after he fell ill with a heart attack during a match against Leeds United in October 2001.
At the end of the 2003-04 season, Houllier left Anfield and went on to win back-to-back Ligue 1 titles with Lyon before returning to the Premier League for a short spell with Aston Villa later on.
