Frank Lampard has legitimately withheld claims that Bayer Leverkusen’s £ 70 million signings of Kai Havertz have disconcerted domestic star, Mason Mount.
“I saw Mason Mount’s story and I know it was made entirely by others, especially if it came from the German end,” Lampard said at a Zoom press conference ahead of the new season.
“I’m not sure whether he’s got any family out there or friends he can speak to, but it was a weird idea that Mason came up with.”
“What I know is about the new people who have joined the squad and how football works in a club like Chelsea, if you’re a young player who’s got a foot in and the club puts in a player who you think will increase scores, then the player can, and ideally, boost their standards and everybody will benefit.”
“I’m trying to be realistic about the way I pick the squad. I’m not going to pick the team on if you come from the academy, I’m going to pick the team on how I think it’s meant to be selected every week, how they practice and how they’ve performed.”
“Everyone can be optimistic heading into the season, preparing as hard as they can and only stressing about squad morale and how we’re heading as a team.”
