On Sunday evening 12 founding clubs joined their hands agreeing to the formation of a new competition titled European Super League, but it had to face a lot of opposition from other league competitions and football clubs. With that football players and coaches also criticized the new breakaway European Super League.
On the creation of the ESL, Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has expressed his reaction.
Bruno on his Instagram stories posted a link to the post and wrote: “Dreams can’t be bought.” The Portuguese accompanied his message with three emoji with applause and an image of a heart.
His compatriot Daniel Podenсe from Wolverhampton published the following post on Instagram: “Ball. The song. The dream. Zidane’s shot… Kaka’s solo… Liverpool in Athens… Ole at Barcelona… Chris and Seedorf. These are things you can’t really buy.”
Midfielder Mesut Ozil from Fenerbahce has also criticized plans to launch a new tournament, the European Super League.
“Kids grow up dreaming of winning the World Cup or the Champions League, not some Super League,” tweeted Ozil, attaching an emoji with a football and a broken heart.
“The pleasure of the big matches is that they happen once or twice a year, not every week. It’s very hard for all football fans to understand all this.”
Ozil previously played for Real Madrid and Arsenal, who are involved in the creation of the Super League.
Former Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Inter midfielder Luis Figo has shared his thoughts against the creation of a European Super League.
“This so-called ‘Super League’ is anything but ‘super’. This greedy and heartless move will be a disaster for the lower leagues, for women’s football and the wider football community,” tweeted Figo.
“The tournament is being created only to serve self-serving masters who long ago stopped caring about their fans. Total disregard for the merits of the sport. A tragedy.”
