Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski should inaugurate a petition to ensure that the Ballon d’Or is rewarded this season claims Rio Ferdinand.
“If I’m Lewandowski and they canceled the Ballon d’Or, I’m launching a petition to have it back on,” Ferdinand told TEAMtalk.
“In comparison to the year in which Luka Modric earned the trophy, Messi and Ronaldo have controlled the competition over the last 12 years, but Lewandowski brought himself to the next stage this season. I can’t believe they’ve canceled it.”
“It’s unfair, that’s a good word to describe it. Lewandowski deserves to win the trophy for what he’s achieved this season, so if he takes Bayern Munich to the Champions League then they still say they won’t give that to him, that’s not correct.”
“People suggest Ronaldo treats the award too seriously, but I don’t have that. What the award means to the history of the league, I think it’s a shame that they’ve taken that away this year.”
“Why can’t they give out the award, even though they don’t have a huge celebration to hand it over like they normally do? I guess that’s out of order.”
“It’s remarkable to get in the list as the greatest player in the world. All these people want to get there. That’s the elite, the standard for the highest player, and now, in this era, there are two players who have dominated that for so long.”
“It will make things all the more special for Lewandowski to have his name on the list, so I can’t believe they’ve taken that away from him.”
