Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has disclosed who he thinks is the favorite to win the Champions League.
“I think Bayern are the favorites. The other side is Liverpool. It is great to see the top clubs in the play-offs, there are English guys there, but Manchester United have been disappointing,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
On how he feels about Man Utd’s Champions League relegation
“I’m devastated, I was up all night. Look at the bags under my eyes.”
“But I think the English clubs will make it to the final stages of the tournament. They have really quality players. Bayern and maybe PSG are the only threats.”
“If Bayern are injury-free, I think they will win the tournament again, given the experience this squad already has, as well as their explosive nature.”
On whether Chelsea are the dark horse in this competition
“Maybe. This team is just getting used to each other, but we can already see that Frank [Lampard] has done a great job in the transfer market.”
“They need to go through the Christmas and New Year period to see if injuries will affect the squad and the players’ form.”
“When the Champions League draw resumes, we will have to revise our expectations for individual teams because the form of the players and their injuries play a big role.”
