The Everton nightmare of Jean-Philippe Gbamin has continued after the midfielder suffered a severe Achilles injury in training.
Next week Gbamin will undergo surgery and the club presumes an “extensive rehabilitation period” from the Ivory Coast international to be needed.
A club statement added: “The injury, sustained in a non-contact situation at USM Finch Farm, is unrelated to the quadriceps problem Gbamin had been working his way back from since August last year.”
“Everyone at the club is devastated for JP and we will ensure he gets all the support he needs throughout this challenging time.”
In August 2019 the 24-year-old moved from German side Mainz for £25million before being sidelined by the quad problem, which in February required surgery after that he managed only two matches for Everton.
If the former Lens player has torn his Achilles tendon, he can anticipate a further six months out of action.
