Spartak record their second victory against the leader of Serie A this season as they beat Napoli in the match of the fifth round of Group C of the European League. Napoli has recorded three defeats this season, one in Serie A last weekend against Inter, and two in the Europa League, both from the Moscow team.
In the first football match in Naples, Spartak won 3-2, and tonight in snowy Moscow with 2-1. It was already the third match in a row in which Napoli did not win after 1-1 against Verona and a 2-3 defeat by Inter. In the second minute of the game, the host took the lead from a penalty kick taken by Aleksander Sobolev.
The foul was committed by Stanislav Lobotka, who knocked down Promes with a sliding start, and the French referee Clement Turpin pointed to the white dot. After 11 minutes the home side could have put themselves ahead but Victor Moses missed a volley shot on a ball coming in from the right.
In the 16th minute Napoli threatened for the first time, but Elif Elmas was not accurate. In the 25th minute, Piotr Zielinski also threatened, but Aleksandr Selikhov was safe. In the moments when Napoli was close to equalizing, Sobolev scored 2-0 on Moses’ cross. In the second half, Napoli played much better and in the 51st minute Di Lorenzo shook the net, but VAR showed that he was in the backfield.
In the 64th minute, everything was clear and Elmas scored with a header for 2-1 on Petagna’s assist. Zielinski had a great chance for 2-2 just three minutes later but he shot over the goal. In the second match of this group on Thursday, Leicester City and Legia Warsaw will meet. Napoli and Spartak lead the table with seven points each, Legia has six and Leicester has five points.
