This summer Portugal hopes to win the second European Championship in a row as the Fernando Santos’ team will kick off their Euro 2020 campaign in Budapest against Hungary. Given the caliber of Group F, Hungary is now a squad to be considered seriously at this level of football and the Selecao will be determined to get off to a solid start on Tuesday
Hungary lineup: Gulacsi; Fiola, Orban, Attila Szalai; Lovrencsics, Kleinheisler, Nagy, Schafer, Holender; Sallai, Adam Szalai
Hungary would miss Dominik Szoboszlai and Zsolt Kalmar this summer.
After recovering from injury Roland Sallai will be ready to play.
In the defense, Endre Botka could join Willi Orban and Attila Szalai.
Portugal lineup: PatrIcio; Semedo, Dias, Pepe, Guerreiro; Danilo, W Carvalho, Fernandes; Bernardo, Ronaldo, Jota
Diogo Dalot has replaced Joao Cancelo who has tested coronavirus positive and would miss Euro 2020.
Jose Fonte and Pepe are vying for the right to partner Ruben Dias at the heart of the Portugal defense, with the former likely to get the nod after helping Lille win the title.
Hungary’s football team is unbeaten in 11 games and has only conceded more than one goal in one of those games.
Portugal is shocked to know that Joao Cancelo will miss Euro 2020 as he has tested positive for COVID-19. They do, however, have quality at every position on the field.
Portugal has won four of the last five encounters between the two teams, maintaining a clean sheet in each of those victories, and with a stronger squad than in 2016, the A Selecao could collect a morale-boosting victory to start Group F.
Hungary held Portugal to a draw when the two teams met at Euro 2016 and Santos’ side is unlikely to have it all their own way on Tuesday. The holders, on the other hand, will need to get off to a solid start, and we expect Ronaldo to lead his team to a crucial victory over the Hungarians.
Our Prediction: Hungary 0-1 Portugal
