As England fell to Denmark at Wembley to a 1-0 Nations League loss, Harry Maguire was sent off inside 31 minutes for two bookable violations.
Manchester United captain Maguire became the third England player to be sent off at Wembley for two wild lunges and can have no excuses, making England’s job all the more difficult.
With the spot-kick delivered effectively by former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, Kyle Walker accepted what was a generous penalty four minutes and a defensive disaster later.
The 10-man hosts failed to rouse a response in the second half, falling to just their second loss in 22 home internationals to drop out of the top two in Group A2, with the Danes climbing into the second position above England.
