On Tuesday, England defeated Germany 2-0 at Wembley, and following the football match captain Harry Kane said England’s remaining rivals at the European Championships would consider them a “dangerous” team after reaching the quarter-finals. After booking a place in the quarter-finals England team captain and coach reacted on their victory over Germany.
England team captain words:
Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling scored late in Tuesday’s 16-run game to give England their first knockout win over Germany after the 1966 World Cup final. Gareth Southgate’s team will take on Ukraine in a quarter-final match at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Saturday.
“Any team will look at us and know we are dangerous. There is nothing greater than when expectations are met and we have given, so we should be proud – but we cannot stop here. We hope to be back here in the semi-finals and the final,” Kane said.
England team coach words:
Gareth Southgate admitted that if his team had not defeated Germany 2-0 in the Euro 2020 last-16 his career as England manager would have been jeopardized. In an interview with BBC Sport later, he admitted that such zeal comes at a cost.
“You know that if you change the shape, you pick certain personnel instead of others and if it goes wrong you’re dead. We had to go about it in a way we believe and wanted aggressive pressure all over the field. We felt that to match them up was the right way of doing that and speed in behind would cause them a problem,” he said.
“Bukayo [Saka] and Raheem, right from the start really created that jeopardy in their backline. We know that they were going to have moments of possession because they’ve got really good footballers and experienced players. But the whole team defended incredibly – the goalkeeper, right the way through. It was a fabulous performance, I can’t give enough credit to the players,” he added
“They both have to prove people wrong all the time. Raheem has been immense for us over a three or four year period. We’ve got that faith and trust in him and his performances have been electric right from the start. For Harry, a really important moment I think. When you’re a centre-forward, it doesn’t matter what else you’re doing in the game, you need those goals.”
