England crushed Ukraine and reached semi-finals of Euro 2020

Harry Kane scored twice as England advance to the Euro 2020 semi-finals in a 4-0 one-sided win over Ukraine in Rome on Saturday. Gareth Southgate’s side leveled the quarter-finals with two more goals at the start of the second half, a goal scored by Harry Maguire before Kane relegated.

Substitute Jordan Henderson finished fourth and, while Denmark awaits the semi-finals at Wembley on Tuesday, England will be confident they will continue to reach the first final of the European Championship and still claim a major international title in 1966.

Ukraine was certainly a weaker opponent than they could expect to face in the quarter-finals, a stage in which they lost to Italy and Portugal in the previous European Championships. However, the figures are impressive, with England going through five matches in this tournament, all without scoring a goal.

Part of their game in wide areas was remarkable, with Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho – making their debut at Euros – too hot for Ukraine to handle. Kane endured a worrying international drought, in the middle of the week beating Germany 2-0, and put England ahead by four minutes into a sweaty evening in the Italian capital.

The captain of the England national football team, Harry Kane had gone almost eight hours without finding the net for his country, but his opener was second in only eight minutes after a late strike that won over Germany. Despite the opposition, their performance at the Stadio Olimpico was a step up in the final third division at the previous Euro Games and would be preferred at home against a Danish team that played their quarterfinal against the Czech Republic in away Baku on Saturday.
