A total of 66 EFL clubs have undergone mandatory testing for the first time since November, and it has exposed the degree to which Covid is spreading the game.
During a week of testing, clubs in the English Football League reported 112 positive tests for coronavirus among workers and players.
In recent weeks more than 50 matches in the EFL were postponed and a large number of cases were registered after which League officials and clubs were braced for a high infection rate.
The findings indicate, however, that while hotspots exist, with three clubs accounting for 35 cases, many clubs have just one or no positive tests. Prior to their next game, the remaining six clubs will be checked.
The infection rate was 1.7% from 2,295 tested people. In addition, four Premier League games have also been postponed due to Covid.
