East Bengal signed goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya

SC East Bengal has signed goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya from their neighbor rivals ATK Mohun Bagan. SCEB completed a one-year deal with the goalkeeper. Arindam was the winner of the Golden Glove with ATK Mohun Bagan in the 2020-21 season of the Indian Super League, by overtaking Mumbai City FC’s Amarinder Singh making 10 clean sheets and 59 saves.

“I’m just happy to be here. I can’t wait for the season to start. I want to win as many matches as possible for SC East Bengal and keep as many clean sheets as possible,” Arindam said after agreeing to the football transfer. “I will also try to keep the dressing room very tight and together. That’s how you win trophies and that’s what I will try to do with this team,” he added.

Arindam reveals that his family members are supporters of East Bengal and he went crazy when the opportunity came. “At home, my father and grandfather are supporters of East Bengal. I have never played for East Bengal in my entire 16-year career. So this time when the opportunity came, I took it with both hands. We all know the legacy of this club and I will put my best foot forward every day to keep the red and gold flag in the air,” said the 32-year-old.

To recap his football career, Arindam enjoyed a trophy-filled spell starting his journey with Churchill Brothers in 2007. Arindam had a stint with Mohun Bagan AC during the 2012–13 season before returning to Churchill and proved to be an important cogwheel after winning the Federation Cup in 2014.

Arindam was on the FC Pune City card from 2014 to 2017 before moving to Mumbai City FC for the 2017-18 season. He joined ATK FC before the 2018-19 campaign, winning the Hero ISL Trophy with them in the 2019-20 season. He then moved to ATK Mohun Bagan in 2020, where he won the Golden Glove award.

Joining the SCEB Bhattacharya will train under legendary Robbie Fowler. SC East Bengal coached by Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler last featured in their maiden ISL campaign, finishing ninth.
