The Magpies are expected to be on the verge of a Saudi-led takeover that would make them one of the richest clubs in the world.
According to a source, Newcastle United is in the process of signing Ajax star Donny van de Beek.
Following his outstanding results in Ajax’s run to the Champions League semi-finals last year, the Dutchman scored eight goals and five assists this term in the Eredivisie.
The Netherlands international has been on the top priority for Manchester United and Real Madrid. Van de Beek was believed to be close to reaching terms with Madrid.
Newcastle could also make an offer, Le 10 Sport argued, but earlier this month the player’s agent disclosed that the coronavirus pandemic had left his future in danger.
With Van de Beek among those targeted, the prospective new owners of United are said to be big-name hires to mark their arrival at St James’ Park.
