According to Anfield legend John Barnes, in the previous season, the Liverpool team was more successful as runners-up than winning the Premier League title in this 2019-20 season.
“Last year, I’ve been satisfied with them — 97 points and ranking second, winning the Champions League …” he told talkSPORT.
“In fact, I think last year they were probably better but Man City was just amazing.”
“They’ve kept the consistency with everything they’ve achieved this year, and I’m looking at that as a two-year success if you want – winning the Champions League and coming second by a point in the league and still winning the Premier League this season, it’s been an unbelievable 2 years.”
“Jurgen Klopp has brought the team a real degree of consistency, determination, and humility. People are now saying ‘can they do it next year again,’ but what we can do next year is that we can be as competitive as we have been this year.”
“Teams can definitely change and make it harder but I don’t think next year we’re going to be any less consistent.”
