David Luiz took the blame of losing the match with Man City

On Wednesday David Luiz played a bad game, after that he admitted speculation about his playing future did not improve.

In the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City by Arsenal, the veteran defender has taken responsibility for his involvement and stressed his intention to stay at the club next season.

By the end of the season, the 33-year-old has his contract set to expire at the Emirates, pundits have declared that Luiz has no future at the club, but the man himself thinks differently.

Speaking after the match, the defender admitted that he had to blame for the loss of his side and admitted that his future Arsenal needs had to be sorted out with both he and manager Mikel Arteta eager for an extension of the contract.

“It was not the team’s fail, it was my fault. The coach is amazing, all the players did amazing, it was just my fault,” Luiz told Sky Sports.

“I should have taken a different decision in the last two months. I didn’t – it was all about my contract. I don’t want to use that as an alibi or excuse, it’s just my fault and that’s it.”

“I love to be here that is why I continue to train hard and that is why I came today. Nobody asked me to speak, it is up to me to show my face.”

“I want to stay. The coach knows and wants me to stay, we are waiting for the decisions.”

The return of Arsenal to the Premier League action was a night to be forgotten with Granit Xhaka and Pablo Mari, both forced with injuries from the field.

It was a horror night for his side after the match admitted Arteta as he refused to throw Luiz under the bus for his performance.

“Everything went wrong from the first minute. Every possible accident that could have happened hopefully happened today,” Arteta told Sky Sports.

On Luiz, Arteta added: “He is someone that is very honest and straight forward. My opinion of David Luiz hasn’t changed. It won’t change because he had a difficult performance tonight.”

Benfica could not afford to sign the Brazilian, thus the president Luis Filipe Vieira indicated that Luiz was close to signing a new contract with Arsenal.
