In the Copa Libertadores final which is to be held on Saturday, Palmeiras and Flamengo will compete allegedly and David Luiz has praised his team’s ability. Defender David Luiz feels Flamengo has “without a doubt” the quality to participate in the Champions League as they prepare for the Copa Libertadores final against Palmeiras.
A former Chelsea center-back David Luiz joined Flamengo in September after his contract with Arsenal expired, concluding a 14-year involvement with European football. While Palmeiras are focused on the weekend, David Luiz explained to Stats Perform why he believes Flamengo is capable of competing in Europe’s top club league. Ahead of Copa Libertadores final the Brazilian insists Flamengo are Champions League quality.
When asked whether Flamengo could cut it in the Champions League, David Luiz responded: “I believe that is right. Flamengo is the first club to be organized to give players the opportunity to represent and do best what we have to do, and that is to play football the best way we can.”
He added, “We have an amazing structure – high caliber players, players who have played in numerous places and have a lot of quality. I believe, yes, we have the quality to play in the Champions League, without a doubt.” Palmeiras are eyeing a title defense in Montevideo after succeeding in last year’s final against Santos in CONMEBOL’s top-tier club tournament.
