Some Crystal Palace fans raised a banner in protest of the Saudi ownership of Newcastle United in the Premier League. These new owners have made Newcastle the richest club in the Premier League, even over Manchester City (the football news). And the Crystal Palace banner against Newcastle’s takeover faces no charges from the local police, though it was rather controversial.
Crystal Palace Banner against Newcastle’s Takeover Faces No Charges
A few Crystal Palace supporters held up a banner that we could construe as Islamophobic in their match against Newcastle.
The banner slammed the Premier League’s Owners’ and Directors’ Test for a Saudi consortium’s recent takeover of the Tyneside club.
These fans, whose banner protested the club’s takeover making them exorbitantly rich, will face no charges, according to the police.
There was thus a complaint regarding Crystal Palace fans unfurling a flag while hosting the Newcastle team.
By the way, Crystal Palace drew 1-1 in this Premier League match against Newcastle United at Selhurst Park on Saturday. The game finished in a 1-1 tie, because a magnificent Callum Wilson overhead kick cancelled out Christian Benteke’s opener.
But after the complaint, police investigated the situation of the banner and determined that they would take no further action.
The banner also featured a magpie, which likely represented Newcastle United Football Club, whom fans call as the Magpies.
A member of the public made a complaint to police following the game, with a statement from Croydon MPs saying “On Saturday 23 October police received a report of an offensive banner displayed by Crystal Palace fans. Officers are assessing the information and carrying out enquiries. Any allegations of racist abuse will be taken very seriously.”
Croydon MPs, on the other hand, indicated on Monday that the police would take no further action following an evaluation.
Meanwhile, following the dismissal of Steve Bruce, whom other coaches defended (football highlights), Newcastle are looking for a new manager.
