Portugal CT Fernando Santos doesn’t expect Cristiano Ronaldo to ‘lower his standard’ but believes he can play until 40.
Portugal coach Santos assumes that the 35-year-old, who has already scored three times in Serie A 2020-21, will play for another five years, but expects the superstar to leave until he thinks he can no longer contribute at the top.
“Cristiano is ready to play until he’s 40, but he doesn’t know if it will happen,” Santos told TVI24. “At some point, he may feel that he no longer has the same conditions.”
“He’s not a player who will lower his level when he feels like he can’t be Ronaldo, he won’t.”
For the national side, the Portugal captain has scored 101 goals and has continued to impress at Juventus, after he moved to the Old Lady in July 2018.
With the Bianconeri he has scored 68 times in 91 competitive matches, adding 10 to his remarkable Champions League total of 130 goals.
