Amidst Hans-Joachim Watzke stressing the need for fans to return, coronavirus caused a significant loss for Borussia Dortmund.
A loss of €43.9million for the financial year 2019-20 was posted on Borussia Dortmund’s official website.
BVB only played 12 league matches at a Signal Iduna Park capacity as the Dortmund board presented the results, explaining the deficit was due to this season’s coronavirus pandemic.
“The entire past decade has been very good, both athletically and economically,” said chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke, with Dortmund making a €17.4m profit in the previous year.
“In economic terms, we have always written black numbers in these years. Then coronavirus came.”
