Chris Basham signed a new contract with Sheffield United until the summer of 2022.
He was earlier linked to Newcastle United but the Blades confirmed the news this morning.
The 32-year-old started each Premier League game for the Blades last season and was named the season’s player of the Blades ‘players and supporters’ player last night.
Basham admitted: “I’m delighted that the deal was agreed and signed off. I look forward to the future, working with the manager, and helping push the club forward.”
“We all strive for the same thing, starting with the manager and all over the club, we all have the same ambitions and the same objectives.”
“Within the group, there is a genuine unity and obviously that makes you want to remain part of this journey, we certainly think there’s a lot more to come.”
“Since day one, the club has backed us and that’s continued throughout our rise to the Premier League, now we’re here we want to improve further and that’s the focus ahead of coming back for pre-season later this month.”
After scooping both awards on Friday night at the United’s virtual awards ceremony, Basham said: “I’ve loved being here for the last six or seven years, and may it continue for a long time, because I love being here.”
When Blades were in League One the former Blackpool man joined the team and is approaching 300 appearances in United’s red and white. He has since helped Chris Wilder’s men to two promotions.
