Chelsea beat three La Liga teams to reach the third Champions League final – Sevilla, Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid. Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel says Manchester City is a “landmark” as his team won a famous victory against Real Madrid to win the Champions League final across England.
The Blues beat the record 13 times European champions Real Madrid 2–0 at Stamford Bridge to win a 3–1 total. Chelsea will face Pep Guardiola’s team in Istanbul on 29 May.
“It’s really huge, so I’m absolutely thrilled with this spirit and the great credit is given to this team,” said Tuchel. “I will always say, for me, Bayern Munich is the benchmark with Manchester City and we wanted to narrow the gap with Manchester City.”
The final at the end of the month will be the fourth time Chelsea and City meet this season. While City went on to win 3–1 in the Premier League over Stamford Bridge, before Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard, Chelsea beat Guardiola’s hopes by winning the FA Cup semi-finals 1–0 on 17 April.

City entertains Chelsea in the league on Saturday knowing that the win would clinch them the third league crown in four seasons. Asked about his thoughts on the Champions League final in England, Tuchel said, “It was a semi-final match, we did it with a great performance and we need it again.”
“It gave us confidence and confidence for every sport because it is the highest level you can meet. We had huge challenges in the Premier League and we were very strong with it and we showed our mindset and quality in all these matches. So yes, we will arrive in Istanbul with confidence and positive energy. No injury, positive energy to win, as the contestants. We want to reach victory with a clear focus.”
Chelsea is in the Champions League finals for the first time since 2012, when they defeated Bayern Munich with 4-3 on penalties. Thomas Tuchel guided his team to the finals two times in a row.
