In Group E of the Champions League, Bayern Munich made it five wins in a row with Robert Lewandowski scoring five goals in the process. Bayern Munich claimed the top spot in Group E with a 2-1 win over Dynamo Kyiv, thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s current Champions League scoring spree.
With a stunning overhead kick in the Olympic Stadium snow, Lewandowski scored for the ninth game in a row in Europe’s top club championship, becoming the first player to do so twice. Bayern needed only a point to seal first place and was far from comfortable but Kingsley Coman increased their lead before halftime in a football match, ensuring Denys Harmash’s late response was in vain.
The contest’s quality was hampered by difficult circumstances on the ground with one notable exception. Lewandowski had plenty to do after the ball looped up off Illia Zabarnyi in the area, but his acrobatic finish was impressive. However, Leon Goretzka prodded Manuel Neuer and was relieved to see the post come to his rescue when the goalkeeper failed to make any contact at all with an attempted clearance.
Instead, Thomas Muller dummied Corentin Tolisso’s ball and Coman scored Bayern’s second shortly after Lucas Hernandez survived a tangle with Vitaliy Buyalskiy inside his own area. As Neuer rushed to save Mykola Shaparenko’s deflected effort early in the second half, Dynamo might have answered, but the same guy was unable to turn in the rebound.
The home side scored for the first time this season when substitute Harmash nutmegged Neuer, but they lacked the class to add an equalizer that was certainly deserved, even if Viktor Tsygankov’s speculative late shot brushed the post.
