Captain Samir Handanovic states that Europa League finalists Inter should get used to playing for big trophies.
Samir Handanovic is eager not to let the new chance pass him by as he has been expecting trophy success with Inter for eight years.
Antonio Conte’s team’s goalkeeper and captain will be charged with holding Sevilla out in the Europa League final Friday.
With high hopes of being in the hunt for silverware on a regular basis, he arrived from Udinese in 2012 but the Slovenian had a frustrating wait.
It might be the “starting point” for a bountiful era, says Handanovic and Inter’s painfully barren run in Cologne could come to an end.
“When I joined Inter it was to be involved in finals such as these, but unfortunately the situation that occurred in the last few years wasn’t the best,” Handanovic told a news conference claim Football Italia.
“But we’ve now got to the stage where we can once again compete for significant milestones.”
“I think this should simply be a starting point. Matches such as these need to become a habit for Inter, just as they were 10 to 15 years ago.”
“Inter should always be looking to play in finals, compete for trophies and league titles.”
“Now we’ve got to the stage where we can actually compete for significant milestones, not only tomorrow but the day after too and a month from now.”
“That’s why I’m proud to be here today. That said, even when I joined the club my idea was always to try and play and compete to win trophies.”
