As expected confidence was flowing through the Gladbach ranks and their early pressure bore fruit after their midweek 5-0 victory over Bayern Munich and now the football team has defeated Bochum. Joe Scally’s run down the right ended with him standing up a teasing cross to the far post where Alassane Plea was waiting to power a header into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0 football scores.
Bochum’s response was more one of solidarity than one that looked like scoring, but it was Gladbach who were next to strike, doubling their advantage 5 minutes before the half time break as Plea contributed to the team performance with an assist finding Jonas Hofmann inside the penalty area – and the German sent the ball beyond the visitor’s goalie.
Bochum tried their best to find a way back into the game, but until the 86th minute simply couldn’t convert their efforts into a goal when Danny Blum hit an absolute rasper of a free-kick to hand Bochum a late consolation. To claim their third successive Bundesliga win for the first time since November 2007 ‘Die Unabsteigbaren’ missed the chance – they are now 14th in the Bundesliga, 4 points behind the rival Gladbach.
