To record their third win of the Bundesliga campaign Eintracht Frankfurt beat Freiburg 2-0 at the Europa-Park Stadion. The visitors started enthusiastically, hoping to ease the growing pressure on manager Oliver Glasner when Jesper Lindstrøm forced Mark Flekken into a shrewd save in the 12th minute of the football match.
After losing their unbeaten record in all competitions against FC Bayern Munich, looking to get back on track, the hosts began to introduce themselves into the game, as Kevin Trapp denied Vincenzo Grifo’s effort. In the 35th minute when Lindstrøm found himself in space between a Freiburg defence, Eintracht Frankfurt silenced the home supporters to slot past Flekken and score his first-ever Bundesliga goal.
In the 43rd minute, Christian Streich’s half time plans were torn to pieces when Filip Kostic’s long-range free-kick went past helpless Freiburg goalie and the visitors doubled their lead, in pursuit of becoming the first club to win at the Europa-Park Stadion. Freiburg were inches away from scoring at the start of the second half when Nicolas Höfler cannoned the header off the post.
The hosts continued to press for a breakthrough but failed to add any of the hosts’ names on the scoreboard. Oliver Glasner’s men have now secured their spot off the relegation zone placing 11th in the Bundesliga standings, whereas Freiburg have suffered their second defeat in a row remaining third in the table, 6 points behind the leading Bayern Munich.
