Braithwaite in a cryptic post – ‘I do my talking on the pitch’

Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite scored twice in the club’s first match of the La Liga season without Lionel Messi. Barcelona kicked off the match in style, defeating Real Sociedad for football scores 4-2 at Camp Nou on Sunday evening. Braithwaite received plaudits as the man of the match. He also became the first Danish player to score a bracket in La Liga by scoring on both sides of the break. Following the game, Braithwaite made a cryptic post on his social media account. “Some people like to talk. I do my talking on the pitch,” Braithwaite tweeted on Monday.

In the 19th minute, Gerard Pique scored the opening goal, assisted by Memphis Depay, who had his wages cut the day before. Martin Braithwaite then scored a brace to put the Blaugrana in command, only for La Real to rally in the final ten minutes with goals from Julen Lobete Cienfuegos and Mikel Oyarzabal. Sergi Roberto appeared at the end to put an end to any possible comeback.

Braithwaite was named man-of-the-match for his efforts, which was significant for him personally. The Danish striker has been linked for a move away from Camp Nou in the transfer market all summer, with the club viewing him as a saleable asset in a time of financial need. Wearing number 12 jersey now, he lost his number nine to Memphis.

Barcelona head coach, Ronald Koeman was full of praise for Braithwaite after the win against Real Sociedad. “I think he (Braithwaite) is an example of a professional, he always works for the team and has improved his game. He helps us a lot. He has speed and is difficult to stop. I am delighted to have players like him.”

Since joining Barcelona at the beginning of 2020 Martin netted 10 goals and contributed five assists in 54 appearances. The Dane competed at Euro 2020 for his country as they made it to the semi-final.
