AC Milan has announced the signing of Real Madrid player Brahim Diaz on a two-year loan deal, reportedly with a buy option and a counter-option, but no mention of that deal has been made in the statements. The official letter of both the clubs only mentions that this is a two-year loan deal that is expected to end on June 30, 2023.
It is widely assumed that Milan can buy Brahim Diaz outright for around €22 million, however, neither announcement states this option. Real Madrid should also have the option to repurchase him for €27 million. Milan is also said to be spending €3 million on a two-year loan. According to the latest transfer news, the 21-year-old winger will return to Rossoneri after impressing at San Siro on loan last season.
On Sunday, at the club’s Casa Milan headquarters the 22-year-old signed the contract but it was not formally announced until last evening. Number 10 jersey, inherited from Hakan Calhanoglu, will be given to the Spain international. Calhanoglu left as a free agent for their city rivals Inter. He had previously spent the 2020-21 season on loan at San Siro, where he scored four goals in 27 competitive appearances.
“AC Milan is delighted to announce the signing of Brahim Abdelkader Díaz from Real Madrid CF on a temporary basis for two years. The contract ties the football player to the Rossoneri Club until 30 June 2023,” the club revealed in a statement published on their official website on Monday. “Brahim, after scoring 7 goals in 39 appearances with AC Milan last season, will continue to be a Rossoneri player, wearing the number 10 jersey.”
The player’s own wish to stay at San Siro was key in completing the loan, as Madrid still sees plenty of potential in Diaz and is not interested in releasing him on a permanent basis.
