Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa states that he hasn’t enhanced a fortune overnight solely by guiding Leeds United to the title of the Championship and the Premier League promotions and shifting the praise to his players.
Before being confirmed as champions with Stoke City’s defeat of Brentford, Leeds acquired promotion on Friday following the loss of second-placed West Bromwich Albion at Huddersfield Town.
“I’ve been working in football for 30 years and one title doesn’t change much, the percentage of trophies I’ve got,” said Bielsa (via Reuters), who took charge of Leeds in 2018 following trophy-less stints with Marseille, Lazio, and Lille.
“What makes me happy is the fact that, over two years, I have done this project with this group of players.”
“I am recognized for this job in Leeds, but honestly I think that the capacity of our players was more than the capacity or ability of my leadership that makes the difference in the promotion.”
The Argentine has remained tight-lipped about his future.
Bielsa’s contract is due to terminate at the end of the season.
“I don’t wish to focus on myself. I think it’s not the moment to talk about this right now, everything that’s connected with me,” he said.
