Bernd Leno on not using social media: It affects your life, what’s the point?

Bernd Leno, goalkeeper of Arsenal has reported that he has abandoned using social media.

“Of course, I have a lot of experience in this matter. I have faced abuse in both England and Germany. One time a thing like that happened, it just wouldn’t go out of my head. It was crazy,” Leno said to Sky Sports.

“I played a match really bad and a guy wrote to me on social media, “Do like Anke.”

“When I read that, I realized how many stupid people are on social media. For that reason, I don’t read anything, even if it’s going well. I don’t need it, it doesn’t make me a better person, it’s a waste of time.”

“There are so many fake accounts, people hiding behind their computers to make you feel bad. There’s a lot of racism, insults against family members. I don’t like it and I don’t read it.”

“It affects your life, what’s the point?”

In 2009, former Hannover, Benfica, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Barcelona goalkeeper Robert Enke commited suicide at the age of 32.
