Benzema believes Kylian Mbappe will join Real Madrid

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe was very close to a football transfer to Real Madrid but he will now continue to play for the French club. Karim Benzema believes PSG forward Kylian Mbappe will play for Real Madrid at some point in his career.

For the 22-year-old’s signature, Los Blancos were willing to pay a whopping £197 million on deadline day, but after PSG failed to respond to their offer the La Liga giants eventually backed down.

Mbappe is now in the final year of his contract and the Paris club would not want to let him go on a free transfer. The Frenchman still wishes to join Real Madrid and will look to sign a pre-contract agreement with Carlo Ancelotti’s team in January.

Benzema, who started alongside Kylian Mbappe in France’s 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday night, believes it is only a matter of time before his compatriot joins him in Madrid.

“He is a player whom one day or another will play for Real Madrid. We get on very well and I would like him to already be with me in Madrid. I don’t know what will happen [with his future], but Mbappe would be welcome at Real Madrid. He is a player who has all the qualities to be a Real Madrid player in the future,” Benzema told RTL.

Mbappe has made a bright start to the new campaign with PSG, scoring three goals in his opening four Ligue 1 matches, including a brace against Reims last weekend.
